Mum’s pounds 14k 4×4 fraud; Woman lied to police in bid to scam car insurance firm

0 Comments | Evening Gazette (Middlesbrough, England), Nov 20, 2009

    Byline: GARETH LIGHTFOOT

A CASH-STRAPPED motorist tried to steer police up a blind alley in a bungled pounds 14,000 car insurance scam.

Officers quickly rumbled Gillian O’Connor’s attempts to divert them when she reported her Kia Sportage stolen.

She arranged to have the 4×4 torched to claim the pounds 14,000 insurance money as she struggled to pay finance and could not get a high enough sale price for it.

Police were suspicious and warned the 34-year-old driver she could be prosecuted for any false claims but she persisted.

The vehicle was found burned out in Thorpe Thewles, but with no signs of forced entry. Windows had been left open to speed up the fire, said Alexander Menary, prosecuting at Teesside Crown Court. When O’Connor was arrested she confessed the theft report was untrue, and that she knew “people who knew people” to fire the car. She named her contact as Lisa Elliott, 38, who also made full admissions.

Elliot gave the car keys to her 37-year-old cousin Wayne Donachie, the “vital link in the chain” to the thief arsonist – a third party he wouldn’t name.

Donachie, of Larch Road, Stockton; O’Connor, of St Paul’s Road; and Elliott, of Ellerburne Street, both Thornaby, admitted the February conspiracy to commit fraud.

Richard Herrmann, defending O’Connor, said she made an “incredibly foolish decision” under financial pressures

Neoris and SAP Partner to Provide Mobile Solution to Latin America’s

    0 Comments | Wireless News, Nov 23, 2009

Neoris, an IT and business consulting company, and SAP, a business management software provider, announced they have partnered to launch the Direct Store Delivery (DSD) mobile solution, developed by Neoris and integrated to the SAP platform, which enables mass- consumption industry employees in Latin America to run on-field intensive sale operations through one single application.

“Latin America has been immune to the recent phenomenon we’ve seen in the United States, where many small stores have disappeared as supermarket chains have gained full command of the country’s consumer industry. The LA region is still home to an enormous number of convenience stores that need their inventories to be procured by large distributing corporations, so there are plenty of sales outlets to be serviced by such large distributors,” said Fernando de Allende, VP, Ecosystem and Partners, SAP Latin America. “The DSD mobile solution supports distributor efforts to improve their integrated management of distribution logistics while taking into consideration various sale-process roles.”

Neoris said it integrated ActiveSuite XSales (the DSD module) to SAP’s ERP and CRM applications to maximize existing SAP resources in integrated processes and eliminate reference data redundancies. The application has been certified by SAP as SAP NetWeaver enabled, under the Combined Applications category, and further meets all Platform User Licensing (PUL) certification standards.

  • Storm clouds gathering over Deva

    Storm clouds gathering over Deva

0 Comments | Daily Post; Liverpool (UK), Nov 21, 2009 | by NEIL TURNER

WILLIAM MAKEPEACE THACKERAY coined the phrase “Perfect Storm” in his novel Vanity Fair and it wouldn’t be out of place to utilise the 19th century wordsmith’s phrase to describe events at the Deva Stadium at the moment.

The storm clouds are gathering over Chester City.

There is a threat of expulsion from the Conference if footballrelated debts aren’t paid by November 30.

Former owner Stephen Vaughan, whose family own the club, has reportedly failed the FA’s fit and proper person test and money couldn’t be found this week for temporary loan signings who had brought some much needed quality to the under-achieving squad.

Centre back Jonathan Flynn and winger Michael Coulson reluctantly returned to their respective clubs earlier this week, leaving manager Jim Harvey with an unacceptably inadequate squad with which to prepare for this afternoon’s home match against Altrincham.

“The lads have put in some good performances since I arrived, but I would still say the squad as a whole is not strong enough,” said Harvey

  • What a Carey on, Mariah..

    What a Carey on, Mariah..

    0 Comments | Sunday Mirror, Nov 22, 2009 | by DEAN PIPER

I HEAR the divaliscious star MARIAH CAREY caused chaos wherever she went this week with her hilarious demands. At the Radio One studios she had producers running around to find a straw for her Diet Coke that was “wrapped and sealed”! In the end they had to shoot to McDonald’s to get one!

Then at her appearance at GMTV it took two people to carry six HUGE boxes of food up to the studio for Mariah and her entourage. My source reveals: “Mariah needed help putting on and taking off her coat – she says she never gets dressed by herself anymore – she has a dresser!” And from the sounds of it Mariah’s nowhere near having children with new hubby NICK CANNON, despite continual rumours that she’s up the duff. She laughed, saying: “Nick has just brought me a puppy called Cha Cha – and now she’s had a baby and I haven’t seen her yet so I am so excited. But apparently Cha Cha means something else for some people?! Like Puppies, that means something else too.

Anyway everyone’s laughing at me because I keep talking about my Cha Cha and my puppies!” Over at her exclusive Jalouse bash this week I hear Mariah cocked up big time when Topshop boss SIR PHILLIP GREEN ran over to introduce himself

  • Now let's worry the Wallabies

    Now let’s worry the Wallabies

    0 Comments | Sunday Mirror, Nov 22, 2009 | by Phil Bennett

FULL marks to the old guard for the way they left the Pumas looking clawless and toothless.

Bring on the Wallabies. I cannot wait to see if Wales can finish the autumn series with a win over Australia to make it three victories from four.

The ’seniors’ played a huge part yesterday – the thirtysomethings of Stephen Jones, Martyn Williams and Shane Williams.

Shane looked as sharp as ever with his two blistering tries, Stephen was a class act with his kicking and showed great presence of mind to score his try, while Martyn was the master of the breakdown as ever.

But credit should go to the whole of the Welsh side for this victory, even though the tries came from Argentine mistakes.

Remember, this was a Pumas team that had run England very close at Twickenham a week before and have a superb recent pedigree.

They are no great shakes behind the scrum, but their pack is rugged and it was notable how successful Wales were in keeping the upper hand.

Hard work has become an impressive hallmark of this Welsh side and it allows the fancy dans like Shane to then strut their stuff.

The graft put in by Gethin Jenkins, Matthew Rees, Alun Wyn Jones and Ryan Jones in the pack was tremendous. Gethin and Ryan are both real assets for Wales – players the rest of Europe would love to have in their line-up because of the amount of work they get through.

Luke Charteris is not fa r behind and the whole forward effort kept the Pumas firmly on the back foot.

James Hook is improving with every game at fullback and I felt Jonathan Davies had a very sound game in the centre in his first Test start in Cardiff.

Jonathan shouldn’t lose too much sleep over that charged down kick that gave Argentina their try

    Business Wire, Jan 6, 2009

Topics: Adolescent Oral Health, Cosmetic Dentistry, Digital Radiography and Dental Implants

NEW YORK — MetLife announced today that four quality resource guides have been added to its American Dental Association (ADA) and Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) recognized dental continuing education program. The new self-study courses focus on: 1) Adolescent Oral Health: Perspectives for Dental Practitioners, 2) Cosmetic Dentistry, 3) Digital Radiography (second edition), and 4) Restoration of the Single Tooth Dental Implant. The courses are available online at www.metdental.com and can be completed for continuing education credits.

“Staying current with new ideas is important and having access to these ideas is critical for those in the dental profession, and MetLife is pleased to provide easy-to-access educational resources that can help keep the dental community current on clinical and professional developments,” said Alan Vogel, DMD, national dental director for MetLife, which is the largest administrator of dental benefit plans among all single commercial carriers, providing dental plan administration for over 21 million people.

The MetLife Dental Advisory Council provides expert guidance for the company’s Quality Initiatives Program, in which educational offerings are developed via needs assessment. The four new MetLife Dental Quality Resource Guides include:

Adolescent Oral Health: Perspectives for Dental Practitioners. Written by Deborah Studen-Pavlovich, DMD, chair and professor of the department of pediatric dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh and Dennis N. Ranalli, DDS, MDS, senior associate dean and professor of pediatric dentistry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, this guide discusses the physical growth, hormonal changes, changing self-awareness and the expectations of peers and society that all play a role in the expression of oral diseases in adolescents and influence their treatment decisions. The shift in caries risks and patterns, the onset of periodontal diseases, questions regarding third molar removal, tooth whitening and the management of traumatic injuries are among the topics discussed in this guide. In addition, oral health problems associated with the use and misuse of common medications are included. While taking the practitioner on a tour of the oral health problems occurring during adolescence, this guide also highlights multiple opportunities to establish effective strategies for a lifetime of good oral health at a time when the patients focus is on self.

  • Snow Leopard woes.(FEEDBACK)(Letter to the editor)

Snow Leopard woes.(FEEDBACK)(Letter to the editor)

Macworld, December, 2009 by Zarnt, Denny

While I try to keep up with current versions of my software, I’ll skip the next fee-update version of a software product in order to save a little. Since I was new to Apple’s Aperture and had not mastered much of its power, when Aperture 2 was released in February 2008, I decided to wait for version 3.

After installing Snow Leopard, I learned that my version of Aperture isn’t supported. That means Apple has abandoned users who bought a software product only 16 months ago. Apple never published a list stating which products would not run on Snow Leopard

  • A marriage of convenience store for $1

A marriage of convenience store for $1

    Grocer, August 22, 2009

As supermarkets broaden their reach to everything from car insurance to space travel, US chain 99c Only Stores is offering cash-strapped lovers the chance to get married in-store for less than a dollar Classy.

“If you get cold feet, don’t worry,” guffawed a group spokesman. “We sell socks for only 99 cents!” It’s only a matter of time before smitten couples in his’n'hers Kappa tracksuits can tie the knot at the Asda Chapel of the Sacred Smart Price, or march each other up the biscuit aisle of Britain’s Biggest Love Emporium for Market Value wedding cake.

Meanwhile, Tesco last week trumpeted the arrival in-store of extra large condoms in response to growing customer demand Every little helps–especially in the bedroom And fair play to any shopper bold enough to return a condom they found was too small after trying it on.

But Tesco’s attitude to sex is still not as enlightened as it might be The supermarket, along with Sainsbury’s and Asda, is putting stickers over the DVD boxes for Lesbian Vampire Killers–obscuring the word ‘lesbian’ rather than the references to bloodsucking or murder Weddings, maybe–but civil partnerships are obviously one step too far.
